Many well-known German companies have set the goal to become carbon neutral in the coming years, specifically by 2025 according to the current climate protection law of the federal government.
BVS can proudly report that this significant milestone has already been achieved TODAY. For the first time in our history, we were able to conclude a fiscal year as carbon neutral!
What have we done to become carbon neutral? First and foremost, several internal measures were implemented to keep our ecological footprint as minimal as possible.
- Modernization measures to reduce air pollution, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions
- Use of air heat pumps
- Photovoltaic system to cover approximately 1/3 of energy consumption with green electricity
- LED energy-saving bulbs in all premises
- Climate-neutral parcel shipping
- Digitization - primarily digital invoice delivery
- Remaining quantity of printed letterhead is offset through support of compensation projects
- Water dispensers, reducing the use of plastic
- Our core business - repairing and overhauling electronics to prevent e-waste and preserve finite resources These measures are an ongoing process with continuous optimizations.
To maintain the carbon-neutral status, the carbon footprint was initially determined. In the next step, we searched for a suitable project to compensate for the unavoidable CO2 emissions. Considering the new business fields, it made sense to support the following project related to renewable energies.
Bhadla Solar Park, India
The Bhadla Solar Power Project (400 Megawatts) is a part of the currently largest PV park in the world, which currently has an installed capacity of 2245 Megawatts. For comparison: The largest PV park in Germany, with 16.5 Megawatts, is operated by a BVS customer.
While other renewable technologies often have ecological or socially undesirable side effects, this is not the case with the present project, as it was built in a sand desert region in the state of Rajasthan, which is uninhabitable due to climatic conditions. The area needed for the project does not compete with residential or agricultural needs. As the Bhadla project was built in the desert, there is no expected impact on biodiversity (flora and fauna).
Offsetting unavoidable CO2 emissions To offset the generated CO2 emissions for the fiscal year 2022, BVS purchased and retired emission rights totaling 315 tons.
By determining our carbon footprint and the corresponding offset of CO2 emissions, as BVS under GoGreen, we have taken another significant step towards environmental protection and sustainability.
Background: BVS's connection to renewable energies / Solar project For over two years, BVS has also been active as a repair service provider in the field of PV inverters, offering its services for this business sector. Given the long-standing expertise and know-how in inverter technology, it was natural to serve this forward-looking market. The focus is primarily on string and central inverters, brought to a like-new state through comprehensive product overhauls.
To offer our customers a very high quality standard, along with a 24-month warranty, specific test facilities have been and continue to be developed and built for the respective PV inverters.
